Tuesday 22nd April - walks **** – Felixstowe and Wherstead – sunny periods and warm.

As I woke up early with last nights rained cleared away I decided to head out in the van at 5.15 to catch the sunrise and aimed for the Ferry with the moon looking cool! I stopped on the golf course to take a couple of pics, followed the jetty as the sky had a hint of red before parking near the Martello tower and made it to the Deben just as a big red ball was appearing on the horizon. I got a few nice pics including some of the small waves splashing up but it was a tad on the chilly side! Then home to sort out my pics in bed with the electric blanket on!
Tuesday is usually our day to visit Mary an old friend but with rain forecast for tomorrow we decided to swap days for tomorrow leaving us free to go for a walk in the sunshine. I had plenty of time to do my exercises in the sunny, warm back garden before packing a picnic, yummy egg sandwiches. We parked in Bourne Hill in Wherstead near the ski slope, we head off pass the Oyster Reach Pub and the footpath sign actually takes you into Fox’s Marina but we miss the gate onto the River Orwell path and end up in the fenced boatyard. We have to backtrack to get back on The Strand and quickly find the nice grassy path leading to the Orwell Bridge and walk under, the tide was low but there were a few boats out in the light airs! It was then up to Suffolk Food Hall, certainly a place we will not be visiting again full of expensive stuff you can live without! We continue up the farm track to the lovely St’ Mary’s church, passing a mini-digger entering the churchyard to fill in a grave! There was a good selection of benches to sit on to have our picnic with kites and buzzards overhead with stunning views down to the river! We thought there might be bluebells in the small wood but sadly not as we continue along the lane to the busy Shotley Road, luckily there is a foot/cycle path to help you over two roundabouts over the A 14 before reaching Bourne Hill once more. Then down past the ski slope where we spot some lovely bluebells in the woods near the Blue Cross centre and back to the van, knackered with sadly my heel hurting once more, two injections have done little to help it:(
